Snow Yunxue Fu’s Artist Intro of Two Public Artworks LED Displays by Poly Art in City Centers of China, 2022
December 2022

Hello there, my name is Snow Yunxue Fu, I am a new media artist based in New York City, and a professor at NYU Tisch School of the Arts. I am excited to share that my two artworks Submerged & Avalanche are showing in the City Centers of China on the public LED screens. I want to thank Poly Art and curator Qin Wu for this opportunity, and I am grateful that my work can be shown especially during the current times. The two pieces had both been previously shown at New York Times Square’s ZAZ 10TS LED Screens back in summer 2021.

The large scale outdoor LED screen showing Submerged is located at Hanjiang Road in Wuhan (武汉江汉路). Submerged is an immersive digital landscape painting made up of various moving virtual body parts. The fragments of the human bodies are textured with galaxy-like materials on them, and it hopes to underline the inter-connectivity that we all have with each other as human beings, especially in materialized matters and forms.

The indoor LED SCREENS showing Avalanche are located at Jing An Kerry Center in Shanghai (上海静安嘉里中心). Working with 3D scanned models and particle simulation effects of the snowfall, Avalanche is a 3D moving image artwork that illustrates the digital imaging version of the concept of “entropy”, originated from Land Art.

In both works, I create scenes of experimental abstractions that translate the concept of liminality into the digital experience. The word liminal is often used to discuss the sublime within digital space, conjuring up notions of time, space, and perception, and echoing the experience of the sublime in nature.

I really appreciate Poly Art’s invitation by curator Qin Wu for showcasing my work in this way!
