Portals (2026) presents a series of floating architectural islands suspended between sky and sea, shifting across atmospheric conditions—from snow-covered daylight to nocturnal, luminous cityscapes—rendered through 3D imaging as speculative environments that resist stable orientation. These scenes operate as digital thresholds, situating the viewer within a continuous passage between natural and constructed, physical and virtual, where scale, gravity, and temporality feel unsettled. Drawing on Victor Turner’s notion of liminality as a state of ambiguity and transition, the work frames each environment as an in-between space that invites reflection on perception itself, while its navigable, immersive quality aligns more closely with the liminoid—an elective encounter with simulation. The pristine yet uncanny architectures, surrounded by vast, reflective waters and shifting weather systems, evoke a techno-sublime in which beauty and disorientation coexist, prompting the viewer to confront their own response to digital artifice as a constructed, yet affectively powerful, parallel to the sublime in nature.
